Activities for the family on Sanibel Island

You’ll never have to wonder about what you will do today. There’s plenty of fun to be had for even the youngest family member.

  • Enjoy the most important meal of the day on the Lighthouse Cafe! They boast the “Word’s Best Breakfast” and serve a mean assortment of southern breakfast dishes. Most importantly of all, they are kid friendly.
  • Sanibel Lighthouse is the next stop and is a whopping 4 minutes from the Cafe. Your children will love running along the beach looking for seashells and might learn a thing about history while exploring the landmark lighthouse and historical cottages. There is a parking fee of $2.
  • Drive onto the Convservatin Foundations’s Nature Center and Garden at the Ding Darling wildlife habitat. Most of the island is a nature preserve, and there are plenty of trails to stroll. But children love the interactive displays and touch tank located at the Center.
  • Island Moo Cow is the perfect place to wind down after all the excitement. They have a wonderful backyard dining area with games and tropical foliage that makes it a fun restaurant that still has the island serenity.
  • Nothing says a good day at the beach like ice cream. If you need a mid-day treat or maybe just a punch of sugar to get you through the last part of your itinerary, Pinocchios is renowned for their funky flavors and crowd-pleasing classics.
  • Run off the energy at the free park next door to the ice cream shop. Your children can play, swing and run to their hearts content. And there is a black swan that lives not too far away that you can feed.
  • Head back to your vacation condo for a nap or to enjoy the comforts of home. But when you’re ready for dinner, drive over to RC Otter’s restaurant for island cuisine and musical entertainment. It is located next to the shops of Old Captiva Village.
